Often I am asked how to cut through the massive amounts of information, including spiritual information that is out there.  And even I find myself getting lost in it at times. : )  But what I have found is that the best way to start discerning Truth from data (i.e. information) is to put it to these tests:

1.  Put it into a simple sentence.  If it takes longer than one sentence to describe then watch that you are not getting pulled into a “story.”  Stories involve long justifications and “relativities” which make Truth situational and not apply to everyone equally.

2.  Which brings us to the second test:  Truth applies to all situations, all people, equally.  There are no special circumstances or previous conditions that pre-empt.

3.  Time-independent.  Truth applies outside of time limits.

4.  You experience a settled feeling, a groundedness when you align to it.  Even if the Truth is contrary to what you may be experiencing at the time, something in you knows that this is the rock upon which you can stand, even if you have to make some changes.

I hope those quick tests will help you discard the meaningless masses of data, so that you can focus on what is real and what will truly support you in all ways.

Many years back, I was invited to a friend’s house for wine, cheese and storytelling. She had hired a professional story teller who, for several hours, held us enchanted, hanging on every word. At the end of her stories, she told of how she got started and about the mentor she found to assist her in developing her art. I was particularly struck by this bit:

“I once watched my mentor hold an entire room of children captivated by a story – it was so quiet in the auditorium, not a child was even fidgeting. At the end of the presentation, one child asked,

‘Is that story true?’

To which he replied, ‘All stories are true; but not all of them have happened yet.’”

What’s your story? (BTW, I love living in a building that has that phrase draped outside on a banner.) But a more important question is “What do you want your story to be?” Have you asked yourself that lately?

At this time of year, kabbalists review their life, and ask these questions of themselves to prepare to make changes so that they live a good story, hopefully a GREAT story. The reason Star Wars® and Matrix® and the other great adventure movies make massive profits is because inside each of us is a desire to maximize our potential, to truly stand up in dignity.

Several years ago, I started to detect a state of consciousness for which I had no words. I feel it when I work with my clients, especially after they have worked diligently to create a transformation within themselves which is a clearer reflection of the strength and beauty of their souls. Finally, it came to me:

I stand taller because you are standing tall.

I know that doesn’t quite capture it, but I am sure you get the gist. Think about your life this month, and what you might be able to implement or shift that would inspire you to stand taller, to step into your divine dignity? And as you do it for yourself, you give permission for those around you to do the same.

Remember as a kid visiting a friend or a cousin and the mom or babysitter says “Hey you want some ice cream?” And you and the other kids jump for delight? Then you dig into it and find out it is vanilla ice milk? Ick!

Now for some, if vanilla ice milk is all they ever had, they would really consider that a treat. Myself, appreciating good ice cream, I prefer Ben and Jerry’s or Haagen-Dazs(R) if I am going to have it. The difference is exposure to the richness of the difference, right? So the ice milk fans are ignorant of the Haagen-Dazs(R) experience – that means they can still have the experience if they choose. And once they do, I doubt they’ll go back!

I find it amazing sometimes to watch when I tell people about the amount of energy, Light and pure Life Force that is available to them, but they still cling to the ice milk. Is ignorance of the potential a possibility? Yes. But I think it goes deeper to not even understanding that there is a choice to have it.

Ask yourself, “Where is the life in doing this _______?” and fill in the blank. If you are stumped or have to justify it, then stop doing it and move onto something that does bring you more life. If you asked yourself this several times throughout the day, and pivoted to more life-generative activities, the energy BUILDS over the day rather than dissipating.

More Life to All, Less to None is the first of the Laws of Light and while that may seem obvious, we really don’t understand it to the degree in which it would transform our lives. Our energy field /field of consciousness is structured with safety features to give us strength, protection and a natural process of evolution, based on our inner desire to expand.  We start the path based on the foundation provided to us from our parents or those whom we have the most exposure to in the early years of life.  Then at age 13, we receive more information from our soul about what we intended to be and manifest in this life.  That “awakening” is the first one we experience – where all that we took for granted has been shifted, often leading to great conflicts between the generations.  It doesn’t have to be that way, and believe me, it’s not just hormones!

Later on in life, individuals may go through other processes of awakening based on life experiences or transformational shifts in perceptions.  However, one characteristic marks this process of awakening, or what I call “cracking the cosmic egg” – it is preceded by a period of discomfort, or emotional trauma, or significant dissatisfaction with one’s situation.  It is only from tapping into the energy of that desire to leave one’s current station of evolution, that will give you enough umph to crack the egg.  Why would you want to? Because on the other side is a great influx of energy, wisdom and room to grow!
